Why should you use Air Curtains in Dairy Farms?

Air Curtains for Dairy Farm

With the help of air curtains in dairy farms, two different environments can be separated without the need for a physical door. Once the door opens, the machine lets out a stream of air that doesn’t get in the way of any movement. They are not only a must-have for any type of building or industry, but they also cut your annual energy use by 80% and save you a tonne of money.

Air curtains have been used for decades to save energy on industrial building entrances and, more recently, on commercial building entrances like hospitals, hotels, and schools. Now, they are being used successfully on dairy farms to keep milking parlor equipment from freezing up. They also help stop the growth of housefly larvae and the spread of hay dust across the farm.

Air curtain helps to create a free-fly zone

Many farmers find the presence of house flies and stable flies to be an annoyance on their dairy farms. Not only can they cause trouble for farmers and livestock, but they also stress out cows, resulting in less milk being produced. In addition, research shows that flies spread many other types of animal illnesses, such as diarrhea, mastitis, Rift Valley fever, and bluetongue. Since this is the case, having houseflies or stable flies on a dairy farm is not only annoying but also potentially harmful.

Flying insects are unable to penetrate air velocities of 4,133 to 4,527 feet per minute, which are typical of air curtain discharge velocities. Air curtains let employees come and go as they please through open doors, but they keep flying insects out, which could be bad for the employees happiness, health, and cleanliness.

Using air curtains helps in reducing energy use thus saving money

The capacity of air curtains in dairy farms or buildings to keep in heat or air conditioning is becoming more crucial as energy prices continue to rise. Even though many farm buildings have heaters for the animals and the workers, few have air conditioning.

Air curtains have the potential to reduce the amount of heat lost from an outdoor event by as much as 80%. The return on investment for an air curtain that reduces energy use is typically under 4 months.

Many farms that prepare meat on-site or store food find that air curtains keep everything cool and dry. Installation of air curtain systems designed for walk-in coolers may help farms save a lot of money on their power bills.

Why to Ventilate a Dairy Plant by using an air curtain

Ventilation is the process of circulating air to keep the air quality in a building stable. The ventilation system makes clean air while getting rid of contaminants, heat, dust, harmful gases, and unpleasant smells. In dairy plants, large amounts of water, cleaning agents, hot water, and steam are used for a variety of tasks.
The relative humidity of the air goes up when water evaporates from several places. Higher relative humidity levels are not good because they make it uncomfortable for farm workers to do their jobs. Most people need relative humidity between 60 and 65 percent and air temperatures between 22 and 24 degrees Celsius to be comfortable.
Without good air quality management, keeping a plant that processes fluid milk comfortable is hard. Increased humidity makes corrosion and mold growth. It should be noted that it may not be possible to get good air quality with ventilation alone and that a cooling system may be needed to make sure that the factory has the best air quality. Ventilation is important for hygiene and product quality in the dairy industry. Milk and milk products are hurt by odors that get trapped in places with poor ventilation.

What are the benefits of using an air curtain on a dairy farm?

  • Large and powerful air currents make it easier to avoid flying insects, rodents, and dust. It purifies and filters the air in the room.
  • Air curtains is the best way for dairy farms to save energy because they stop air from flowing between the inside and outside.
  • The air curtain makes it easy to move around while keeping the temperature and humidity levels the same in both rooms.
  • To transport a lot of milk or milk products, you need to be mobile.
  • The Air Curtain Machine keeps the inside temperature stable, protects it from outside smells and dust, and keeps it clean. It stops diseases from spreading and keeps hay dust out of the facility.

Why an Automatic ON/OFF Air Curtain Is Necessary for Dairy Farm

The air curtain should be automated to reduce the possibility of human error. The dairy sector is just one of several that are increasingly pushing for greater levels of machine control. In this setup, the fan will activate immediately upon the opening of the door. The fan turns off mechanically when the door is closed.

This automation may be implemented at a minimal cost and achieve remarkable efficiency.

To do this, an infrared or electrical sensor is attached to the door. The sensor detects when the door is opened and sends a signal to turn on the fan. It’s possible that the door-opening switch’s control panel, in addition to a sensor, will send out an alert.

Due to the excessive mobility of animals, workers, or machines at dairy farms, it is very difficult to maintain the temperature barrier between the two environments, and that too, manually. So it’s best to use an automated air curtain that turns on and off by capturing the movements of every individual.

Why Air Curtains are an excellent choice for Clinics and Healthcare?

air curtains for clinics

As the place of treatment and recovery – hospitals, clinics, and health care needs best air quality than commercial offices or retail centers, to get people healthy again, and prevent airborne toxins from making diseases worse. That’s why air curtains for clinics, hospital, and healthcare are a great solution.

Hospitals have intimidating environments for the workers who toil relentlessly every day to safeguard lives and provide top-notch care. The health of the patients in hospitals depends on clean, comfortable surroundings. The operational needs of large medical facilities present issues in controlling energy consumption, air quality monitoring, and ensuring that patients have access to meals prepared in a clean environment. Although air curtains are common in organizations like restaurants and grocery stores, the question arises. Should a place like a hospital use them? Why should a Healthcare facility spend money on additional equipment?

The answer to that question is a clear “yes.” And a definite yes. In fact, air curtains may be used by hospitals in a variety of circumstances. Although they may provide comfort, hospitals should take into account other, more significant benefits that are more mission-critical. Think about the best way to use this cutting-edge technology in an existing or future hospital.

Problems with the air quality in hospitals

The main reason hospitals have to spend additional funds on air quality is that they have to deal with more contaminants than other confined spaces. Patients and employees are two of the most important things that got affected by the air quality in hospitals. There is a much higher chance that some of the sick people in hospitals, who have a wide range of illnesses, will give off highly contagious pollutants that will affect the air quality inside.

The new study shows that

  • Droplets with a diameter of 100 micrometers can travel five times farther than was thought before,
  • Droplets with a diameter of 10 micrometers can travel 200 times farther, and
  • Droplets with a diameter of fewer than 50 micrometers can stay in the air long enough to reach ceiling ventilation units.

Before, most experts thought that a cough could send out a cloud of infectious particles as far as 200 feet.

This study helped us learn how airborne pollutants can hurt the air quality in hospitals and cause outbreaks of diseases. The results of this study and analysis could be used to focus on and improve things like separating patients in hospitals and improving ventilation and filtration in small spaces.

But for a good air filtration plan to be put into place, medical authorities need to have enough resources, which is often all about money. Installing an air curtain in this crucial situation would certainly be a help to all the individuals present at any healthcare organization:

  • Air curtains for clinics would separate the contagious environment from the spaces where the workers or other patients are present.
  • If there was an air curtain at the main entrance, insects or dust wouldn’t be able to get in.
  • The advanced air curtain from Mitzvah would help to purify the air with one piece of equipment, so no additional air purifier is needed. This becomes a money saver.
  • Separating the hot from the cold zone in the hospital and maintaining the temperature requires extra energy. And an air curtains for clinics is the best way to keep that balance and save money at the same time.

Why does the air curtain remain the best solution for hospitals and healthcare facilities?

High-traffic areas house departments including wards, outpatient waiting rooms, testing rooms, surgery rooms, labs, food services, cafeterias, laundry facilities, and more. Once an air curtain is deployed, there is no way for air or pollutants to go through it. Aids in preventing unwanted pollutants and contaminants from entering the room. It prevents clutter and minimizes the ingress of flying insects. It also helps to dampen any distracting sounds or smells.

In addition to their simple operation, Mitzvah Air Curtains are complex equipment since they have a disinfection and purification system in one piece of equipment. When compared to traditional air curtains, our air doors are more efficient and flexible. It helps in:

  • Suppression of pathogens and eradication of bacteria.
  • Reducing the concentration of noxious VOCs in the air (volatile organic compounds).
  • To get rid of pollen and dust mites.

This allows us to use our air curtains in two different ways. Its dual use as an air cleaner and a barrier against outside air pollution is impressive. Our products may be used to purify the air and sanitize the space.

Saves Energy

Apart from protecting the restricted area from pollutants, the air curtain also helps save energy. Thus, air curtains become dual in nature. An air curtain at the front door not only keeps things neat and tidy but also has the added benefit of regulating the temperature inside. When temperatures outside are high, it prevents hot air from entering the building while allowing cold air from the air conditioner to remain inside, even if the door is left open for a while. Putting in an air door in a medical facility has been shown to make patients feel more comfortable, save energy, and make the place safer.

Using air curtains can make an intensive care unit runs smoothly

In the healthcare industry, the intensive care unit is among the busiest places. The doors are kept open around the clock because of the seemingly endless stream of patients, visitors, and emergency personnel. All sorts of airborne threats, such as mosquitoes, smog, car exhaust, wet air, viruses, and the like, enter at this point. It’s just as crucial to have clean air indoors as it is outside. In these conditions, it is important to control the sources of heat, moisture, airborne particles, and other pollutants, as well as any air leaks to the outside. Only then will the air inside be safe to breathe.

  • Pollutants and exhaust fumes should not be allowed to enter enclosed spaces.
  • Help “Filter” the air coming into the unit.
  • Hold temperatures at an equilibrium stage.
  • Keep the emergency room’s humidity at a steady level.

How Air Curtains Can Help Your Retail Store be More Environment Friendly

Air Curtains for retail store

Air curtains offer businesses an environment-friendly, energy-efficient, and pocket-friendly solution. Energy is a precious resource, but also an expensive one. There’s a reason why many companies across industries are looking for ways to adopt sustainable practices, not just looks. There are clear economic benefits to being more sustainable, at least in terms of energy consumption. Air curtains of a retail store are important for customers

Few retail stores can handle as many walk-in customers as the average convenience store. Retail stores, either stand-alone or attached to gas stations, play an important role in many communities as a one-stop shop for a variety of basic needs and more. However, with so many customers coming in and out every day, business owners may find themselves dealing with unexpected problems every day.

From swinging doors that let flies or mosquitoes into stores, to the impact on indoor temperatures, a booming business often presents convenience stores with additional challenges. Are these concerns just part of running a business like this? Maybe — but that doesn’t mean you can’t find effective solutions to these problems. Consider this: Simply installing an air curtain over a grocery store door can have a huge impact on comfort, energy saving, and entry of flies, insects, and dust.

Key Benefits Retail Stores Can Get From an Air Curtain System

How can a hardware addition have such a profound impact? At the end of the day, what matters is the unique way the air curtain works. By using a powerful and quiet motor to generate a special pressurized airflow that completely covers the open door; you can effectively create an atmospheric separation between the inside and the outside environment.Doing so yields the following benefits that can improve what a convenience store offers to patrons:

Air Curtain Improves customer comfort, especially in extreme weather conditions

Take a look inside the store during the summer months. With the air conditioner on, the temperature in the store can be very comfortable. However, as guests enter the doors one by one, cold air continuously flows out of the door while warm air flows inward. After just an hour or two in the process, the humidity in the store rises significantly and so does the temperature. The air conditioner continues to work hard, but can’t keep up and may never reach the temperature set by the thermostat. Customers in line would feel uncomfortable, and staff would get tired of the constant hot air. In winter, this situation can play out similarly.

air curtains prevent the free flow of air between the inside and outside of the building. The airflow is gentle to those passing through it but strong enough to keep your treated air from escaping the premises. The result is a building that is more likely to achieve a stable temperature and a comfortable atmosphere for both guests and employees.

Reduce the penetration of outdoor dust and small flying insects

For many retail stores, indoor air quality can sometimes be an issue. Gas pumps in the parking lot in front of the front door and exhaust from idling vehicles can cause unpleasant odors that get into the car. Not only are these fumes a potential health hazard, but smelling them all day will not make any occupants of the building happy. The same properties that allow the air curtain to prevent cold air from escaping the door also help reduce the entry of outside odors.

Likewise, small flying insects have difficulty overcoming the obstacles created by the air curtain. It is also important to create a hygienic environment in retail stores, where food is often served in different forms. Owners can also choose to install air curtains on the rear door and doors leading to the waste disposal area. Reducing the number of flying insects entering a facility can help create a healthier workplace and avoid unsavory sights for customers.

More efficient use of energy for heating and cooling

Remember how we just talked about how air curtains can help your business maintain a more consistent temperature? This also works in air conditioning systems. Due to the typical profit margins used in grocery stores, major unexpected expenses like replacing an air conditioner are not easy to budget for. When your equipment does less work to cool your store, it lasts longer and you pay a lot less for maintenance.More ordinary AC cycles additionally translate to decrease power usage.

An Easy Solution to Add to Most Retail Stores

Combine these three advantages and understand that it all comes in one package deal and it is handy to see why air curtains can be a rewarding addition to comfort shops of all sizes. Leading producers such as Mitzvah grant a broad variety of air curtains appropriate for doorways of various widths, making it effortless to pick out a unit that aligns with your building’s profile and gives you the overall performance critical to free up these benefits.

How air curtains can prevent short range infections in diagnostics center

air curtains in diagnostic center

Air curtains in diagnostic centers are expected to reduce the risk of short-range infections. To quantitatively evaluate its performance, this pa examines an air curtain attached to a standard treatment table to avoid direct exposure of physicians to contaminants exhaled by patients.

Numerical studies were conducted to evaluate the effect of supply air speed and angle on outage performance. The simulation results show that the average mass fraction of pollutants exhaled from the treatment station is significantly reduced (70%-90%), indicating that the performance of the air curtain system is satisfactory.

It has been shown that an increase in the supply air velocity favors the formation of a complete air curtain, while too high a supply air velocity can be detrimental by entraining the exhaled airflow. In addition, the intake angle is also critical due to the coupling of the intake angle to the intake speed. It has been found that when the speed is less than 3 m/s, a larger angle (0°-40°) is better, and conversely, when the speed is greater than 3 m/s, a smaller angle (20°) is better. At an intake angle of 20°, the expiratory airflow is well suppressed, but at 40° it moves on the air curtain. This research can provide effective and intuitive guidance for the use of the air curtain system in the consulting station.

Air curtains are a very useful device; many health professionals recommend them. Hospitals, clinics, diagnostic centers, nursing homes, laboratories, and other medical facilities around the world use air doors or air curtains for a variety of reasons.

Maintaining hygiene is critical in any industry, and even more so in the healthcare industry, where employees, patients, and visitors are all vulnerable to infection. Healthcare facilities require special attention in terms of sanitation and personal hygiene.

How does an air curtain help in maintaining hygiene?

The health center is a high-traffic area and there are different departments in the building such as

Installing air curtains can prevent air and contaminants from moving from one place to another. It helps prevent pollutants from entering the building. It reduces the entry of flying insects and makes the premises more hygienic. It also blocks smoke and unwanted noise.

Energy Saving Air Curtains- A Hygienic Processing Facility Designed by Mitzvah

energy savings air curtains

Air Curtain is a hygienic processing facility that is designed by mitzvah. The air curtains are suitable for every type of field like- warehouses, restaurants, shopping complexes, malls, salons, offices, etc. to keep the dust, flies, insects, bad odor away while maintaining the inside temperature. If you are looking for energy saving air curtains then, go through the Mitzvah air curtain website www.mitzvah.in.

In this blog, you will get to know how air curtain makes your environment clean and dirt free-

No matter what building you have, whether it’s an office, school, restaurant, or retail store, it can be difficult to prevent heat loss when there is a lot of traffic. For any building with more doors open than closed, energy-efficient air curtains have the potential to significantly reduce energy costs, but how do they work?

Opening or closing doors allow heat (and energy) to escape from the building. Warm air rises and flows out of the open door, followed by cooler air, replacing it at the lower level. Of course, this happens in any room or building, but doors that open and close frequently or stay open all the time can speed up the process. As more  cooler/warmer air escapes, your cooling/heating system has to work harder to replace it, increasing your energy bills.

Energy-saving air curtains create airflow through the door, creating a “barrier” between the air inside the building and the air outside. These air curtains often have heating elements that increase the temperature of the air to reduce uncomfortable cold drafts as people pass through an open door.

Using air curtains as a barrier ensures that the energy used to heat the building space is not wasted. This results in an overall reduction in the building’s energy consumption, carbon footprint, and operating costs. In fact, recent research in Finland shows that air curtains can reduce door air leakage by up to 86%.

Do you know air curtains can help us save millions of hard-earned money?

A simple mathematical calculation can prove this. Let’s see how:

Energy Calculation

E = m C ∆T

m: Mass of Air

C: Specific heat of Air at a given Temperature

∆T: Temperature Difference

m = Density X Volume

The density of Air at 40˚C = 1.127 Kg/cu. Meter

C = Specific Heat = 1.005 KJ / (Kg ˚C)

∆T = Temperature Difference = 15˚C

(assuming the outside temperature is 40˚C and the inside is 25˚C)

Volume = Area X Velocity of Air from Door X Time of Opening

(Say : Door Size = 8ft X 4 ft

Velocity = 1 m/s = 200 fpm

Time of Opening = 1 min

Volume = 32 X 200 X 1 = 6400 cu. ft. = 181.22 cu. meter)

m = Density X Volume

(from Above = 1.127 Kg/cu. meter X 181.22 cu. meter

= 204 Kgs)

E = m C ∆T

= 204 kgs X 1.005 KJ / (Kg ˚C) X 15˚C

= 3075.3 KJ = 0.85425 KWh

Thus –

India if Per KWH cost of Power is Rs 8.10

The cost of Opening the Door of Size 8ft X 4ft for 1 min is = Rs 6.92

Cost of Running an Air Curtain of 4 ft = 400W (Input Power) for 1 minute = 6paise

Rate per kWh X Time X Power Input

8.10 X 1/60 X 0.4 = 5.4 paisa

Net Saving = Rs 6.92 – 0.06 = Rs 6.86

Saving per Hour= Rs.7*60min=Rs.420 per Hour

Thus, you can see how Air Curtains help us save Rs. 420/hour. Also, they create a comfortable and amiable environment by keeping mosquitoes, flies, and other pollutants away.

However, air curtains can only deliver on their energy-saving promises if they are properly designed, manufactured, and installed by experts in the field. As with most technologies aimed at reducing waste and increasing efficiency, air curtains must be sized and selected for the application or they will not achieve the desired thermal and energy savings. Therefore, to ensure that your investment is worthwhile, you should definitely use the services of a trusted provider.

What makes good air curtain?

An Air curtain technically, is a fan-powered air device that automatically creates an invisible air barrier wherever it is being installed. It is mostly used over the doorway to separate efficiently two different environments and it makes this separation without limiting or interrupting the access of the people or vehicles on the premises. Air curtain manufacturers make sure that they are highly operational and progressive.

There are many Air curtain manufacturing units and their worldwide users but not all are fully aware and familiar with its usage and specifications. Thus, we have listed some characteristics and tips that all users should keep in mind to choose the right product.

  • The first and foremost important thing is the height of the door
  • Choose an air curtain according to the width of the door
  • The location of the building should be the determinant factor for the level of protection needed against weather conditions
  • Use air curtains if the focused building has several doors in the same area,
  • If the building has several stories connected by escalators/stairs
  • Air curtains are best to measure pressure differences between the inside and outside of the building
  • Door characteristics also matter to choose an air curtain, if frequently closing and opening, then go for sensor based device, or else manual.
  • Characteristics of the ventilation and air conditioning installation
  • Voltage and electrical power availability also affect the performance of air curtain
  • What type of business, location, and office equipment are there is also vital to get the appropriate product.
  • The fitting style of an air curtain is also responsible for its performance such as free hanging or recessed, horizontal or vertical installation, heated or unheated, etc.

How to Take Sizes of an Air Curtains?

Air Curtain Sizes

For Air Curtains Supplier, there is a Contrary to the common belief, that taking the measurement is actually a child’s play. With only a single piece of equipment, i.e. a measuring tape, this job can be done easily.

It is important to know just 3 basic pointers:

  • 1. Width of the door
  • 2. Height of the door
  • 3. Space available above the door Checklist/selection guide

Factors that will drastically hamper the Air Curtain’s performance

Factors that hamper the Effectiveness of Air Curtains Supplier

Typically air curtains work well in many facilities such as production and industrial buildings, stores, transport terminals, car services, garages, markets, shopping complexes, drying houses, etc. But the proper installation of air curtains is necessary to ensure their proper working.

There are a few other factors that can affect the efficient working of air curtains such as

    • Negative Pressure:If the facility has exhaust fans or gravitational ventilators and no supply air or there is a difference between the exhaust and supply air (i.e. the latter is less than the former) the negative pressure is created.
    • In these kinds of conditions the volume of air moving out from air curtains is also sucked in the facility along with the outside air and hence air curtains become ineffective.
    • High Wind Velocity:When the outside Wind Velocity is too high as in the case of storms, it will disrupt the flow pattern created by the air curtain on the doorway. So, whenever the outside wind velocity of the curtain, it will get disrupted.
    • Horizontal Gap between Wall and Machine:If the horizontal gap between the wall and the machine is too wide, the performance of air curtains will be drastically reduced. An air curtain should be installed close enough to the door so that there is no leakage from the sides of the door. The gap should be less than 50mm, for maximum effectiveness.
    • Vertical Gap between the Nozzle and the top of the Door:If the vertical gap between the nozzle and the top of the opening will be wide, the effectiveness of the air curtains supplier will be affected. Ideally, the gap should be less than 100mm machine.
    • Sizing the Air Curtain:The Air Curtain should always be equal to the Width of the Door, for it to perform optimally. If the air curtain is oversized, it will require more energy than usual and if the air curtain is undersized, it will prove insufficient to fully protect the opening it has been installed above. This will lead to an unnecessary increase in costs because of energy wastage.
    • Placement of Air Curtain:When our primary objective is to discourage the entry of mosquitoes and flies, the air curtain should be installed outside. When installed outside, it becomes 4 times more effective to stop flies, than the one which is installed inside.

How to Save Rs. 420 Every Hour and Enhance Productivity?

Air is nature’s greatest gift to mankind and the quality of the air we breathe in affects not only our productivity but the quality of our life as well. Air curtains are one of the best and most cost-effective ways to maintain the quality of air within the premises and retain a hygienic environment.

Do you know air curtains can help us save millions of hard-earned money?

A simple mathematical calculation can prove this. Let’s see how:

Energy Calculation

E = m C ∆T
m : Mass of Air
C : Specific heat of Air at given Temperature
∆T : Temperature Difference

m = Density X Volume
Density of Air at 40˚C = 1.127 Kg/cu. Meter
C = Specific Heat = 1.005 KJ / (Kg ˚C)
∆T = Temperature Difference = 15˚C
(assuming the outside temperature is 40˚C and the inside is 25˚C)

Volume = Area X Velocity of Air from Door X Time of Opening
(Say : Door Size = 8ft X 4 ft
Velocity = 1 m/s = 200 fpm
Time of Opening = 1 min
Volume = 32 X 200 X 1 = 6400 cu. ft. = 181.22 cu. meter)

m = Density X Volume
(from Above = 1.127 Kg/cu. meter X 181.22 cu. meter
= 204 Kgs)

E = m C ∆T

An air curtain helps maximize savings by reducing energy loss and improving the effectiveness of our cooling/heating systems. They provide a risk-free alternative by shielding the premises without an actual physical door and are one of the best investments for a business.

Parameters to Consider Before Buy Air Curtains

Buy Air Curtains

When buy air curtains system, consider not only the main variables such as door height and door width but also other factors such as the building and climatic conditions.

Other influencing factors are :

  • The positions of the different doors on the floor, and if there are more than one, the positions between them: aligned, facing each other.
  • The different floors are connected by stairs, escalators, or ramps.
  • The pressure difference between the exterior and interior of a building.

According to climatic conditions, air curtains with a stronger, stronger jet and stronger heating capacity should be selected to prevent cold, heatstroke, and wind.

When choosing the type of heating, it is important to consider whether there is hot water or electricity available in the building. You can buy air curtains with electric heaters or heat pumps, which are more sustainable due to their energy efficiency.

There are two primary questions that need to be answered and understood:

  • 1. Will Air Curtain works for me?
  • 2. What are the parameters required to choose the Right Model?

Basically, there is very limited information you require to decide on the requirement of the air curtain:

The Basic information required to know, whether an air curtain will be suitable for your facility or not, is as follows:

  • Width and Height of the Opening
  • Negative Pressure in the facility
  • Outside Wind Draft
  • Purpose of Installation
  • Insect Control
  • Dust Control
  • Save Conditioned Air
  • Odour Control

With this basic information, we can judge whether the air curtains will work for us or not.

Factors affecting the selection of air curtains can be classified into 2 categories:

  • Primary Parameters
  • Secondary Parameters

Primary Parameters Secondary Parameters

Type Voltage
Flow MOC Blower
Mounting MOC Chassis
Fan Operation
Placement

The Primary Parameters include a variety of options that affect the performance of an Air curtain like

Types of Air Curtains:

  • Recirculating:The recirculating air curtain collects the exhaust air and directs it back to the air curtain inlet. This process is repeated continuously with a plenum built into the door, which is reconnected to the air curtain inlet via a duct.
  • Non-recirculating:Non-recirculating air curtains capture fresh air from the environment and exhaust it out of the unit. Since the same air is not recirculated, these air curtains may be referred to as non-recirculating air curtains.

Recirculating air curtains are more efficient than similar products, but non-recirculating air curtains are still more popular. Most of today’s units are non-recirculating units due to their cost-effectiveness and ease of installation.

Types of Air Flow in Air Curtains:

  • Top to Bottom:Top-to-bottom installation is the most common and economical way to install air curtains. Here the air curtain is mounted horizontally above the opening and air is blown out the door from top to bottom.
  • Sideways (L to R, R to L):Here the curtains are installed perpendicular to the floor and the air is blown left to right and right to left. Vertical drainage often requires curtains to be installed on both sides of the door, adding to the overall cost of installation. This type of installation is usually required where doorways are very wide or high.
  • Bottom to top:This type of installation is uncommon and is dedicated to hot furnace applications. Curtain panels require a special frame and are assembled at the door level, the installation is done under expert guidance.

Mounting

  • Surface Mounted
  • Recessed

Fan

There are three types of fans to choose from:

  • Centrifugal
  • Crossflow
  • Axial

Placement Air Curtain Inside/Outside

The air curtains can be easily mounted on either side; whether inside or outside the conditioned area. Usually, it is recommended that the equipment should be installed on the warmer side for optimum results. It implies, that when installing a heated air curtain under cold conditions, it should be installed Inside. In places where the temperatures are too high and the major problem are dust, flies, and saving the cold air, it should be installed outside to get the best results.

Even secondary factors play an equally important role in the selection of an air curtain. They include:

Voltage

The voltage output plays a major role in the selection of air curtains as these machines are specially designed to operate with the mentioned amount of electric outputs. For Indian markets, air curtains are designed with respect to these three outputs:

  • 220V/1 phase/50Hz
  • 220V/1 phase/60Hz
  • 440V/3 phase/50Hz

Otherwise, for the Saudi Market, curtains that work with 220V 1P 60Hz output are demanded. Air Curtains can also be installed in buses and are specially built for 24V/DC. Thus, information on voltage is important for picking out the right buy air curtain for you.

MOC for blower

MOC or the “Material of Cover” for the blower is another specification on the basis of which air curtains are selected. The covers are made of different materials to suit different requirements, such as:

  • Galvanized Iron
  • Plastic
  • Stainless Steel
  • Aluminium

MOC for Chassis

Chassis basically refers to the main mounting and the fixing plate of an air curtain. For the chassis, the customer usually has two options of either picking one of the two materials;

  • Stainless Steel 304 or
  • CRC Powder Coated

An air curtain consultant can help you in picking between various options.

Operation

    • Switch Operated
    • Remote

Classification of Air Curtains manufacturers in India Based on Flow and Fans Type

Air Curtains can be mainly classified into two types:

  • Recirculating and
  • Non-recirculating Air Curtains

Recirculating Air Curtain gathers and returns the discharged air in the air curtains inlet. The process is continuously repeated with a plenum built into the door that connects back to the inlet of the air curtain via the duct.

Non- recirculating Air Curtain captures fresh air from the environment and discharges it from the unit. Since the same air is not recirculated back, these air curtains can be termed non-recirculating air curtains.

Recirculating air curtains are more efficient than their counterparts but still, non -recirculating air curtains are more popular. The majority of installations today are non-recirculating due to their cost efficiency and ease of installation.

Directions of Flow:

There are 3 possible directions of blow-out air streams, both for recirculating and non-circulating curtains:

  • Horizontal Mounting from top to bottom: Horizontal mounting is the most common Installation and most economical way to mount an air curtain. Here, the air curtain is installed horizontally across the top of the opening and the air is discharged from top to bottom of the door.
  • Vertical Mounting from left to right or right to left: Here, the curtain is mounted perpendicular to the ground and the air is expelled from left to right and right to left. Vertical discharge mostly requires mounting curtains on both sides of the door which adds up the total cost of installation. Normally, this kind of installation is required in places with very wide or high door openings.
  • Horizontal discharge from bottom to top: This installation is not very common and is specially used in the case of hot oven applications. The curtain units require special frames and are mounted at the door level and the installation is carried out under specialized guidance.

Type of Fans

Air Curtains can be designed and manufactured with various types of Fans. The three most commonly used fan types are:

Centrifugal

Most air curtain units employ centrifugal fans that use a forward or backward-curved impeller. Centrifugal fans make use of blades to drag air into a circular motion. The pressure of an incoming air stream is increased by blades mounted on a circular hub and alters the direction of the outward flowing air, usually by 90 degrees. Centrifugal fans move air radically and outwards through the vortex housing. Centrifugal fans provide a stronger and more stable air flow than axial fans and therefore, need a higher power input.

Axial

As the name suggests, an axial fan causes air to flow through it in an axial direction. The fan blades rotate around an axis and draw air in parallel to that axis. In other words, the air flows axially in and axially out which forces the air out in the same direction. The fan creates a pressure difference that forces flow through the fan.

Axial fans create a large volume of airflow, but the air flows they create are of low pressure. Therefore, these fans need a low-power input for operation. There is a wide range of axial flow fans. It may vary from low or medium-pressure fans to high-pressure fans. Because of the3 cool and low-pressure high-volume air flows they create, axial fans are best suited for many general-purpose applications.

Cross Flow

Cross-flow fans are derivative fans and comprise a housing with a rear wall and a vortex wall. Within that housing, there is an impeller surrounded by forwarding curved blades. When the air moves through a cross-flow fan, it flows transversely and passes through its blades twice.

In cross-flow fans, the air enters in a perpendicular direction to the motor shaft and is detected by the fan blades and expelled. These fans have a long, rectangular shape and use either an alternating current (AC) or direct current (DC) motor. These fans are also referred to as tubular fans or tangential fans because of their long and narrow shape and airflow pattern. Unlike centrifugal fans, in cross-flow fans, the air flows through the fan itself rather than through an inlet. They provide a high-pressure coefficient and are preferred for their low noise. The most common application for them is a split air conditioner.

All the above types of fans have their own advantages and disadvantages and can be used for different kinds of applications.

Air Curtain Benefits- Save Money & Protect Your Environment

Air Curtains Benefits

Mitzvah Air curtains manufacturers help you save money and protect your environment. The air curtain is a multifunctional product that can be used in different areas. It is a versatile machine capable of solving all kinds of problems we face every day.

Air curtains have many advantages, which is why they are widely used in many industries and different fields. Air curtains come in different sizes and can be installed in different ways to achieve the desired effect. Installing an air curtain system in your business is the best step to solve many of your problems.

There are many benefits of installing commercial air curtains in your work area.

5 Major Benefits of Air Curtains Include:

  1. Environmental separation: The air curtain forms an invisible barrier, preventing the flow of air to the other side. Outdoor environments often have a variety of unpleasant odors and pollutants. Unpleasant odors and exhaust gases are especially difficult to avoid in areas close to industrial sites, waste disposal sites, or sewage treatment plants. Air curtains help maintain a comfortable environment within a facility by preventing the entry of unwanted dust, outside odors, and pollutants.
  2. Temperature control: The temperature difference between the two areas will naturally generate air exchange between these two areas. Warm air exits the top of the doorway and is replaced by cooler, denser air entering from the bottom. Greater temperature differences just result in higher air leaks and energy losses. Air curtains prevent this exchange by protecting the conditioned environment in different areas and helping to control the temperature.
  3. Save money: We all know that changing the temperature costs a lot of money. For example, if we were to introduce hot air into a furnace, we would need burners and fuel. Likewise, to cool the air, we need an AHU (Air Handling Unit), a cooler, or a freezer. Whenever this conditioned air is wasted or lost, it results in an increase in our overall cost. By providing an effective barrier to conditioned air, air curtains provide an ideal solution that can save you money.
  4. Insect and Pest Control: Flying insects and pests can be a nuisance to anyone. The presence of these insects in an area can lead to food contamination, unhealthy conditions, and other related problems. The powerful airflow created by the air curtain prevents these harmful pests and other flying insects from entering the premises, thus maintaining hygienic conditions for everyone.
  5. Work in extreme conditions: The air curtain creates an invisible barrier that isolates different temperature zones without hindering the movement of people and products. Many industries use heaters or furnaces, while others use cold rooms and other cooling systems. Air curtains work in both cases, effectively sealing the area and preventing air exchange and energy loss.
  • Freezers / Chillers / Cold Storage: Air curtains are great for cold storage because they can significantly reduce energy loss by keeping cold air in and hot air out when doors are open and in use. Air curtains are known to reduce losses by up to 90%.
  • Hot furnaces: Air curtains manufacturers have proven beneficial for industries that use hot furnaces and industrial conveyors. They can be used to contain extreme heat and contain hot air inside industrial conveyors or furnaces. This results in savings of up to 40% of the total kiln fuel consumption.
